This statement was delivered by a delegation of U.S. peace
activists on November 16, 2007 to Ambassador Martin Palous
at the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in
Manhattan. The statement was presented in support of Czech
demonstrations against a military base the US and Czech
Republic plan to set up near Prague for radar for an
anti-missile system that will be based in Poland. The
demonstrations were scheduled for the following day in
Prague and Brno. The delegation to the Czech Mission was
organized by the Campaign for Peace and Democracy. In a
historical irony, CPD had assembled U.S. peace leaders to
meet with Czechoslovak representatives in the same building
in November 1989 to protest the repression of student
demonstrations in Prague -- demonstrations that culminated
in the overthrow of the undemocratic regime in the former
Czechoslovakia.
